Cardinal Sin

This is a mea culpa, a very painful confession.

I have now met two people whom I have instantly and unquestioningly believed to be Australian from their accent, only to talk to them later and realise to my horror that they are in fact undoubtedly English.

A mistake this egregious is only forgivable when committed by Yanks, yet viewed down the edge of a long nose turned up in disdain, the sort of superior sneer that the English excel at.

Gasp! gad zooks! As someone unfortunate enough to *have* an australian accent and not even be an australian.... yet have been mistaken by americans as a south african, an english person... and even as someone from Maine (by John Dykstra no less!).... I am shocked, Juan... shocked.... I'm spluttering in my tea....

;)

I would hate you for that too.

It's one thing being mistaken for an Ozzie, South African, Kiwi - over HERE, but over there, uh oh, you be careful now.
